NEDCare

Registered Charity No 1189848

NEDCare is an award-winning community initiative that was set-up by local people in 2016, in response to a dire lack of regulated ‘care at home’ services in North East Dartmoor.

The situation was leaving many vulnerable older people struggling behind closed doors, without the essential care and support they needed to maintain their independence and to live safe and well at home in this rural area. Families, friends and those seeking care were often at breaking point when trying to access local services.

As a charity NEDCare’s vision is of ‘care for everyone who needs it, where and when they need it.’
Because the eligibility threshold for support from local authorities has been rising for years, many older people now struggle to pay for the care they need, often having to decide between food, heat or much needed support.

For this reason, we subsidise the cost of care for those least able to pay and most of the proceeds from our lottery will go towards supporting these most vulnerable people.

We also need to double the size of our care team in order to meet local demand – we estimate up to 15 people are waiting for much needed care in our area, at any time. For this reason, a small proportion of proceeds will go in to the ever-challenging task of finding and recruiting outstanding carers to join our team.

NEDCare looked after my mother for 18 months, before she passed away at home, as she wanted. I do not know how I would have managed without NEDCare.

Our mission is;
• To provide reliable, high quality, person-centred care which empowers people to live safely and happily in their own homes.
• To support our well-trained, professional and friendly carers to build excellent relationships with those they support, helping them to remain as independent as possible within their own homes.
• To maintain an open and excellent organisational culture of continuous learning and improvement for all within the service.
NED Care visit me every evening to prepare my supper and complete other household jobs that I can’t do myself. The Carers provide company and reassurance, and they help me to feel safe in my own home. They look after me and my dog (Sam) very well.
