We are a local, north east charity for adults with learning (intellectual) disability. We support conditions such as Down’s Syndrome, Williams, Prader-Willi, cerebral palsy and Smith Magenis. These are conditions from birth which significantly impact cognitive and adaptive ability, often with comorbid physical and sensory disability.
Working from four Day Centres we provide training services in the community which enable adults with learning disability to develop life and employment skills, and to manage their health and wellbeing.
The Charity also runs a number of small enterprises which provide services to the wider community around our Day Centres. These include a foodbank, meals delivery van, community cafes, gardening and woodwork services. These enterprises give our Clients work experience, and ensure they are visible and valued in local communities.
With a small fleet of minibuses, Journey is a member of the Community Transport Association. We offer transportation to our service users to attend Day Service who have no wider access to transport.
We were chosen by the House of Lords in 2021 as one of fifteen organisations in the UK providing best practice and have featured in the Parliamentary Review.
