There are two million people in the UK currently affected by sight loss and this is set to double by 2050. Sight loss is one of the biggest health challenges we face as a country.
What's even worse is that society seems to accept sight loss as a norm, believing that nothing can be done. For every pioneering research project that we fund, we turn many more away due to lack of funds.
The research, which is carried out at hospitals and universities across the UK, covers conditions ranging from infant to childhood eye disease and blindness to those conditions affecting people as they grow older - for example, age related macular degeneration and blindness caused through diabetes - conditions of particular importance that are a significant problem is our ageing population.
But, we at Fight For Sight know that this is not the case and refuse to accept it. We are fighting to change this perception and change the future of our sight. Our vision is simple, we believe in a future everyone can see.
