Three Rivers Community Partnership
About your Good Cause
The Three Rivers Community Partnership is rebuilding the leisure facilities that serve Gillingham in Dorset and the surrounding towns and parishes. This is an innovative project remodelling and rebuilding the existing facilities that closed in 2008. Making use of ground source heating and rain-water harvesting systems the newly-named RiversMeet Centre will have good eco credentials.
Being provided in this phase is a large multi-purpose sports hall, fitness suite, six lane 25 metre competition standard swimming pool and wet and dry-side changing, as well as meeting rooms and a café complete with Wi-Fi. The local schools in the area will be enthusiastic users of the new facilities as will the numerous sports clubs and societies. The RiversMeet Centre will be community owned and run and is due to open in Spring 2010.
Phase two of the project is to build and equip a community hall which will sit alongside the RiversMeet sports facilities. The RiversMeet Centre has a catchment of 30,000 people in a rural and semi-rural area. The community hall will have state-of-the-art lighting and sound and “bleacher” style seating for approximately 400. It will be possible to run cinema nights, dances, host touring theatre companies, give local arts groups a performing space and hold concerts of all types. Our fundraising efforts are currently focused on this exciting phase, so please HELP to provide these facilities for our area by joining the Three Rivers Unity Lottery.
