About your Good Cause

Originally The Thalidomide Society was formed in 1962 by parents of children with congenital disabilities caused by the drug commonly known as thalidomide.

Through the Thalidomide Society, people with dysmelia, their families and guardians will be personally independent, empowered and better supported.


To present an outward facing website with the latest information on thalidomide and other similarly-impaired (dysmelic) groups.  To seek funding for relevant projects.  To offering a socially supportive, educational and information sharing ?network.  To preserve and promote research into the history of thalidomide by ?archiving and maintaining documents in digital and / or original form.  To provide information and support to media, medical and health professionals and research enquiries. ?


To provide an organisation for the relief of persons with congenital disabilities attributable to ‘Thalidomide’ and for other persons with similar disabilities with a view to obtaining medical, educational and other aid and advice to enable such persons and their families, guardians and PAs to overcome their special difficulties and to live as normal a life as possible.  

Funding Our Achievements

To fund its activities, the Society depends mainly upon individual donations, legacies, corporate donations and investment income. It has also received funds from time to time from government or other grant-making bodies.
