About your Good Cause
Independence is something that many of us take for granted, but imagine having to wait for someone to come and pick up a dropped item that is out of your reach, or having to call someone just to operate a light switch, or open a door for you; not being able to get to a ringing phone or perhaps emergency medication in time. This can be debilitating and a drain on confidence, in some cases leading to social isolation and an inability to leave the home environment.
Having an Assistance Dog transforms people’s lives. By providing a personal dog trainer to help the client train their own pet to become an Assistance Dog, the client grows in self-confidence as well as being physically enabled.
The dogs are taught bespoke tasks, dependent on the owner’s needs. They can open and close doors, operate light switches, put in and take out washing from a machine, find the phone and pick up dropped items. Assistance Dogs enable greater independence, bring social contact and reduce isolation. Dog A.I.D. clients also gain an enhanced bond with their pet, providing comfort and devotion.
Can you help us to increase independence for more physically disabled people?
