Unity Charity Lottery

Rett Syndrome

People born with Rett syndrome are profoundly and multiply disabled, with high support needs for the duration of their lives. With no government assistance, we provide support and advice to those living with this condition, including families and carers. We work closely with professionals and fund research into therapeutic treatments and towards an eventual cure. We also raise awareness of the issues faced by people with Rett syndrome.

The Association is a national charity and has some 3400 members in over 1200 households. We offer telephone expertise and counselling, local support groups, a contact network of accredited parents especially for people newly diagnosed. Recent genetic and research breakthroughs now hold out the tantalising possibility of a cure within the next generation and it is imperative that we raise our profile and raise awareness within the general population - and also among clinicians and other professionals.

We very much want to strengthen our footprint and our impact both nationally and regionally.  We want to increase service levels for those people we already know about, and to identify and offer support to the remainder.
