Cerebral Palsy Sport is dedicated to improving the physical and mental well-being of children and adults with physical disabilities, and in particular for those with cerebral palsy. The charity provides a wide range of sporting opportunities, helping individuals at all levels, from grass-roots to elite performance.
Cerebral palsy is a disorder of movement and posture that appears in the early years of life. It can occur regardless of age, sex, race, maternal age or social background. The true incidence of cerebral palsy is not precisely known but it is estimated by experts that one child with cerebral palsy is born in every 400 births. Of these, one in three are unable to walk; one in four have no function of their arms and hands, one in four have a learning disability and one in ten experience no useful vision. Some individuals experience psychological problems through frustrations caused by their physical disability.
