About your Good Cause
By taking part in the Scottish Spina Bifida Association’s Unity Lottery you will be helping us to raise vital funds to improve the quality of life of children, young people and adults affected by spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and allied conditions.
The Association has to raise £1million every year to continue to provide information and support to service users. We have to raise nearly £50 an hour to continue to be able to give information, promote awareness, provide services and carry out research to ease the impact of spina bifida and hydrocephalus. With barely any funding from central government we rely heavily on donations, sponsored events, community activities and the goodwill of volunteers.
When a child is first diagnosed it is a very emotional and stressful time for parents and other family members. Parents may feel socially isolated, frustrated and under a great deal of emotional and financial pressure. Families need advice and support to help them come to terms with the initial situation that faces them and learn how to manage in the years ahead. Such support will also be required throughout the child’s life and into adulthood, to ensure that all the specialised needs are met.
“Until I contacted SSBA I had never been able to speak to anyone about the problems I was facing and it was a relief to meet others who understood. Over the years when things have been tough, the Association have always provided us with the support we needed.” Pauline O’Malley, an SSBA Service user.
Thank you for your support.
