About your Good Cause

Samaritans volunteers have been a lifeline for over 60 years. We support anyone struggling to cope, any time of the day or night so that fewer people die by suicide. Today, we will receive over 14,000 calls for help.

Every day, Samaritans supports people to explore their feelings and options, so that they can find their own way through. Our trained volunteers are everyday people who listen when people reach out by phone, email, text or by coming into a branch. Our helpline is available round the clock, every single day of the year, for anyone going through a difficult time.

Suicide is not inevitable, it’s preventable; we know that our service can help people before it’s too late. As well as our listening service, we also work in partnership with schools, the media, prisons and the rail industry to reduce suicide.

It’s the public’s kind donations and over 20,000 trained volunteers that mean we’re always there for anyone struggling to cope. But demand for our services is increasing and we need support so that we can train and support our volunteers to be there for people, however they need us, in the future.

Every death by suicide is a tragedy. By supporting Samaritans in the Unity lottery, you give people someone to talk to when they need to most. And that can be a life-changing gift.

Thank you.
