About your Good Cause
Autism Concern, formerly known as Northamptonshire Society for Autism, is a countywide local charity of over 20 years standing initiated by parents of children on the Autistic Spectrum, which provides support and options to those affected by all forms of autism and their families, helping them to gain independence and control of their lives.
Our organisation supports families and individuals across the whole Autistic Spectrum and associated conditions, including ADHD. We have a highly experienced team delivering a range of interventions. Our main areas of focus are:
(i) Autism specific information, advice and guidance, through website, helpline, email, social media and drop-in facility with direct provision to facilitate empower, promote choice, self-advocacy and independence.
(ii) To raise awareness of Autism throughout Northamptonshire in all parts of the community, informing and influencing professional opinion to help shape policy for the benefit of people on the Autistic Spectrum.
(iii) Provide family support, parent awareness courses and befriending opportunities, training for health, social care, education and criminal justice professionals
(iv) Provide a range of short break activity days throughout the year, targeted at children and young people on the Autistic Spectrum and based on their specific needs. This is a discrete, cross county, building- based provision for groups aged 5 - 18
(v) " Out & About" social and learning activities in the community for the children and young people with High Functioning Autism (HFA), Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in all school holidays. This includes a youth group, "Go 4 IT", for young people aged 13 - 18 meeting fortnightly, with HFA and/or ADHD.
