Autism Concern is a charity that helps & supports all individuals involved or diagnosed on the Autistic Spectrum in Northamptonshire. Our main objectives are to provide specialised services in information guidance and support, together with direct service provision to facilitate, empower and promote choice, and independence. Giving the autistic community the opportunity to lead healthy, fulfilling and inclusive lives.
Our charity has grown rapidly in the last few years to meet the needs of this increasing community. It prides itself on being a parent-led organisation and having the knowledge and expertise of caring for a child on the Autistic Spectrum. Five of our staff are parents of autistic children, as are the majority of our Management Committee. Services are based around our experience of the essential needs of families, carers and people on the spectrum and the barriers they face at all stages of development towards having choice and being as independent as possible.
We have now grown to over 440 voting members and had an immediate impact on thousands of people's lives. Services are categorised by Public Advocacy Information Advices and Guidance, Children & Young People, Adult Community Services and Training and Awareness. These include: free phone helpline, advocacy service, drop-in and information centre, web site, befriending service for parents, ASSERT Programme - personal development and vocation training for 16+ autistic adults, Playschemes for children during the Easter and summer school holidays and our awareness and training courses and conferences for parents and professionals.
