PROMISEworks supports long term volunteer mentoring and advocacy services to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people in Somerset. Our approach builds resilience and strengths and creates opportunities for those most in need.

The strength of the PROMISEworks approach lies in its emphasis on the power of sustained one to one human relationships to counteract adversity. Our experience confirms:

Mentoring, advocacy and advisory support is undertaken by unpaid adult volunteers. All complete comprehensive training and are closely supervised and supported by professional staff. Each volunteer is matched with one young person for a minimum of two years. Many continue far longer. PROMISE Mentoring, the forerunner of PROMISEworks, was originally established in 1998. The benefits of our approach have been recognised in extensive research and acknowledgments.
