We provide one day a week Hospice Day Care within Louth Hospital. People who attend have incurable diseases - many have complex care needs and some are in the end stages of their lives. It costs us £920 for each day the service is offered. We receive a small grant from the NHS but remainder of the money needed is raised through fundraising and generous donations. In 2009 we hope to expand our services so that more people can benefit.
Patients attending Hospice Day Care are cared for by specially trained nurses and a dedicated band of volunteers. They are assessed by the Team Leader and a care plan is developed to meet their needs. They can receive clinical interventions, counselling and, complementary therapies such as Reiki. They can get involved with making crafts and group work or they can just sit and relax and chat with other patients. Carers are also offered support and information.
In the near future we aim to build a purpose built Hospice unit in Louth. We need your support to help us continue to provide and develop a much needed service in Louth and the surrounding area.
